Wastewater Microbiology

Course #: 0111-NH

Location: NH DES Training Center - Franklin, NH

Hours: 9:00 - 3:00

Instructor: Michael Ackerman, Wastewater Training Specialist

Credits: 5 Training Contact Hours with 100% attendance

Course Fee: This course is being offered at a special rate of $50 for NHWPCA members. $75.00 for non-members

Description: This course has been designed to provide entry-level microbiology material and introduce the types of microorganisms such as bacteria, protozoa and metazoa. Discussion will include environmental factors that affect their growth and reproduction, explanation of aerobic, anaerobic, nitrification, bacterial growth and respiration, and microscopic examination including selection and use of microscope and procedures for sample examination. Extensive hands-on identification of organisms found in activated sludge will be included, along with a discussion of microscopic examination as a process control tool. Students should bring a small sample of mixed liquor from the effluent end of the aeration tank. The sample needs to be chilled if it is stored more than a few hours to preserve the microorganisms. Sample is not a requirement of the course.

Cancellation & No Show Policy: If you need to cancel you must contact NEWWTA by writing, fax, mail or email at least seven days prior to the start of the course for you to cancel at no cost. Cancellations received after this time will be charged $50. Substitutions are welcome. Registrants who do not cancel and do not attend will be billed for the full amount.

Special Circumstances: Written refund/ credit request will be considered if received within two weeks from the start date of the class. Credit issued will be valid for up to six months.

* We reserve the right to cancel classes due to weather, illness, insufficient enrollment or other reasons deemed appropriate.

* Certificates will be provided upon receipt of payment.
